Chapter 1: Chronicles Of A Zulu Kasi Princess (Page 6)

"Every person has two sides to them. One they let the world see and one they keep to themselves".

It's Saturday morning-the sun is out. Children are playing on the streets. And Boipelo is taking time painting her bedroom because plain white walls are just too boring for her style. She is a lover of bright bold shades like orange, red, and yellow.

Tumi bought her a royal purple paint so she can make her room look like a palace. Wearing blue working overalls, he is standing with his green bottle, dumpie of a castle-light lager, inspecting the great job they have both done. He had an extravagant girlfriend and he had to match the standards. That was his job; to pay and play the part.

Friends used to call him Jub Jub, Cheese Boy or Teddy Bear because of what he wore and drove. Inside a dark silver VW golf 5, the first born of Ntombizodwa and Thapelo; fits perfectly like a thin twelve-year-old boy whereas outside the car he looked like a hippopotamus. For a twenty-three-year-old boy fresh from high school, it was such an achievement to work and drive around that time while friends are still in college. Forgetting that it was his first car, when he saw Boipelo's friends in the famous Phelendaba Block D four-way corner, the big boy pressed the accelerator to make a profound statement that he's the man.

Little did he know that Boipelo's friends felt sorry for him. Her girlfriend managed to clean her reputation and he was one of the guys who fell prey and was used. Every time she gets knocked over by life, when one of her men stop paying, then there should be a prince charming to do minor works and Tumi happened to be a perfect rebound. Though they started dating at primary school, Boipelo dated and slept with different boyfriends while in a public relationship with Tumi. It was known in the block that he broke her virginity, Boipelo's friends knew that it's all a lie, in the name of reputation.

While Tumi thought that they were the”IT" couple in the community, nobody had the courage to tell him about his girlfriend’s filthy ways.

People around Boipelo knew that her domain is her haven. With the money she got from boyfriends, she made sure her bedroom is a perfect outer expression of her rich inner world. She had a fabulous aesthetic unconventional taste.

In her glamorous lifestyle, there was an underlying dark chocolate low-self-esteemed girl who always wanted to clean up her mistakes and move on as a new person, and that made her a people pleaser.

While standing next to Tumi smiling, she thinks about what it took for her to manage such a task. Renovating a bedroom is not a child's play. In her thoughts, she realised that ... had it not been Bra Dan's R2000.00, Tumi's R600.00 was going to be insufficient for all the bedroom accessories and the outfit for tomorrow’s church service.

Standing outside the house behind the mango tree, she squeezed Tumi in silence appreciating his efforts and help.
